Topic: Best 3D Program to fit my needs?

I'm sure a debate over the "best" inexpensive 3D program has been going on for ages, but I wanted to explain my situation and specific wants here and get suggestions based on that.
I'm running a Mac G3 with plenty of space and am starting to look ahead at 3D programs. Now I don't plan to make anything as tricky as a character or anything, just mostly cool things that will move. I guess the most complex moving thing would have a couple of joints, but my main need is for it to really look good and for me to have good control over the textures.
So that's what I'm looking for in a program. I think I'll point to Duality (over on TFN) as an example of the sort of thing I'd like to be doing.
If you can offer any suggestions or comments please do so! Thanks in advance. |

try searching this forum, lots of talk of this. there are so many different things out there, including freeware and sharware we cant guess whats best for you, but many different topics have been started and people have voiced their opinions and preferences later

3D studio max won't run on a mac (this is one of the reasons I don't like it) even though in alot of ways macs are superior to pcs. I would leave it up between lightwave, inspire (both at www.newtek.com ) or animation master ( www.hash.com ). depending on what you want to do if your looking for somthing to do effects with and nothing more go animation master if you want experiance with the tools proffesionals would be using use inspire possibly with the project messiah plug-in ( www.projectmessiah.com ) the guys who did the plug-in originally made it for the movie antz. They are now going to be putting out a full 3D animation package so youmight want to wait and see what happens there. | |
