Does anyone here have any experience using an Enhancing filter for 16mm. I've heard they can make certin colors (like reds)really "pop." If you would like to share any other experiences with filters (good and bad)that would be great too! Thanks. |

Hi, Erik S. Funny you should ask this question. We had a test shoot last Friday for a film I'm doing in February. We tried these filters:Skin Enhancer 812 Supermist Clear 1/2 Supermist #1 Supermist Black #1 Supermist Black #2 Warm Supermist Clear #1 Warm Supermist Black #2 The film's not back from the lab yet, and unfortunately we're not printing the test, but if you'd like I can let you know how these look after transfer to Beta. We're also supposed to have the second half of our test shoot next Friday (2/2) and are going to try about a dozen other filters. I'll keep you posted. We're shooting Super 16. ...

Excellent! I would love to hear about the results of your tests. You know, I've used the 812 before and got some great images. It's a classic filter and personally, I don't think it "warms up" skin tones too much. Some of my other film friends disagree, and I stress some. I think it's a wonderful filter. I've also had experience with soft/fx, warm soft/fx, pro-mist, fog and double fog filters...all with varying success. I liked all the soft/fx series and the double fog as well, but Im not so sure about the general fog or pro-mist filters...I don't know, I guess they just weren't right for the picture I was doing. Anyway, Please fill me in on the results of your tests when you get them. I've never used the supermist series before and would like to hear how it comes out. Thanks. |

Nobody has any other thoughts? I could of sworn I heard some of you talking about filters you had used in the past...Maybe it was just pretend talk? |

Tiffen Warm Black. Good skin tones, nice texture. Of course, circular polarizing and UV. Clear glas with vaseline (colored and plain) gloppy, and not so interesting. ND filters, 1,2,3 - absolutely essential, and not just for our GY-500. Everybody should have a set. That's about it for filters we use. We tend to want the cleanest video we can get, and monkey with it in post. Sarge | |
