Hey everybody,
i know I havent frequented these boards much in the past month and I feel bad about that because I havent been helping out and here I am asking for help but here goes:

For the project Im working on right now I need to have somebodys leg get blown off by a blast of energy. The character will be running toward the camera and then the blast hits him just below the knee joint. The leg like splinters (like a breaking pencil would) and flies off into the lawn. The character is tossed onto the ground (not so much because of the impact, but because he has lost a leg!) right after impact. He does not stand for a second with only one leg and then fall.

How can I do this? Doing a physical effect would be easier but I do have premiere and photoshop and such to clean it up in post to make it perfect.

Thanks a lot!

"The normal question...the first question is always 'Are these cannibals?'.No-they are not cannibals. Cannibilism in the true sense of the word implies an interspecies activity. These creatures cannot be considered human. They prey on humans, they do not prey on eachother. Thats the differance."

A seamless shot would be very hard to do. I'd make a shot of the actor running towards the camera, then cut to a shot with a prosthesis leg getting blown off. And then a shot of him in front of a blue screen with one leg painted blue, so that you can key out the missing leg.
