What kind of lighting are you using on your videos or films? Are people here usuing professional lighting or less expensive lights(like work lights etc)? I just thought i'd see who's using what and how it's working for you. |

at school i use professional Mole lights, we have everything ranging from baby 60 watts to the heavy 2K watt lights. for my own stuff out of school, i use my own 500 watt worklight for a few things, but mostly high-watt practicals (lamps, ceiling lights, etc.). remember, it's not what lights you have, it's what you do with the lights you have.------------------ Monkey Sea Entertainment - renovated as of January 2001 ------------------------- Moviemakers Portal (moviemaking-only search engine) |

We've used everything from professional lights right off a standing set to K-Mart spun aluminum reflectors, including the famous halogen work lights, and, you know what? If you've got a good, strong DP or gaffer who knows what they're doing, it all looks pretty good. For the purposes of this board, I would strongly recommend that anyone who is interested PRACTICE. Don't wait until you're on set, on the day, to figure out what a three-point lighting setup is all about. Take a couple weeks, using the equipment that you will be using when you shoot, and test yourself and the equipment. Shoot stuff, starting with a clapperboard that describes your lighting setup (Sharpie on a sheet of paper works fine - you can even do sketches) and check out the results. Make changes, one at a time so that you can see what each change does, and check them out. Read as much as you can (I should have said that first) but practical experience is always required.Sarge | |
