The term first became popular as a reference to Clint Eastwood's early weatern films like " A FIST FULL OF DOLLARS" and " THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" they were made in Italy by a director named Surgio Leoni and have a very europian feel to them. A machizmo feel that had largely been lost by american filmmakers of the time. |

I stand corrected, after I read your post I remembered something about Spain, I didn't know about them being made in Mexico as well thanks for the information. They're my favorite westerns. It's a genra I plan to explore in the future and I'd like to perhaps do something inspired by those great old westerns. |

Hey, you forgot everyone's favourite Spaghetti Western: EL TOPO. Ok, maybe not. This is the weirdest movie I've ever seen. |

I dont think that even remotely qualifies as a spaghetti western, then again I dunno what the heck it does qualify as...besides just plain weird -nick |

Hey, cool, Admiral! I was just going to mention El Topo. Strange and delightful movie, one that LAS folks should see, just to explore what oddity can actually make it onto the screen. I think the scene with the fruit is one of the sexiest ever!Sarge |

I saw El Topo on the big screen 3 weeks ago. It was sad to see how damaged the film print was.I'm still trying to come to terms with the weirdness of the movie. It tries to mix the most occult eastern philosophies with an allegory on the New Testament, with a lot of weird stuff added in for good measures (you gotta love the underground dwelling freaks). From the imdb: See the naked young Franciscans whipped with cactus. See the bandit leader disemboweled. See the priest ride into the sunset with a midget and her newborn baby. What it all means isn't exactly clear, but you won't forget it.
