I have a character in my film that has a mask over his mouth, kind of like a dirt bike mask or a paintball mask, I wanted the character to every so often have smoke or steam coming out from the sides. Is this possible? Is it simple to do?

Have a tube run to the mask , and the tube run off screen , to where a crew/staff member who does smoke is smoking , and every so often blows smoke through the tube . Actually , you might as well just have an actor who can smoke under his costume .

if your actor doesnt smoke, you can add it in post with a particle sstem in 3dsmax.

Ok, so I could hook up the tubes to a fog machine? Now, the characters' mask will shoot out steam from the sides of his mask, much like the one in The Guyver movie. It's to simulate pressure releasing from the mask. So after I hook up the tubes, how do I regulate and shoot the steam?

You can buy diffusion in a can. Using that you can spary it on to something, in the case the mask, and smoke will come off of it for a while. Use a weak back light to help show the smoke and you're in business

You could also use canned air tubed into the mask. The kind for cleaning camera lenses.

All times are ET (US)
