How can I eliminate the sound of leaves crunching as I am filming in the woods. This is a question that has always been on my mind and I want to ask it before it is too late.

¡Hola Amigo!
Me llamo Cristóbal Carfagno.

I hope that was correct!

depending on where you shoot in the woods, try clearing the forest floor a little before hand. bring a rake. if it's a small area, it'll take 5 min. or a leaf blower!

otherwise, get lightweight actors, that can step around carefully...spanky.

Wow, Banky, that's a good question. To me the obvious answer is to rake a path through them or place something over them that the actors can walk on. Maybe there's a not-so-obvious answer though. The thing is though - if you see a character walking through the woods, aren't you going to hear the sound of them walking on dead leaves? You could get everyone except for the talent to stand in a raked out area or whatever and that way it'd sound more realistic.

You're never going to be able to eliminate the sound of leaves after the fact. I guess I would try to use it to my advantage.

I mean the crew walking on dead leaves. The actors need to have that sound, but the crew crunching on leaves makes a sound that my microphone picks up no matter where it is. Arrrgh!

get a boom for your camera so you dont have to move.

or just have your crew stand still

If none of that works, you may want to add all sound in post. Record seperately some tracks of the leaves crunching and voices, if they're speaking. But it would be hard to totally eliminate the sound. You could do the boom thing, and make sure your crew isn't too close, then manipulate the sound to maybe cut out the back noise.

I'd just rake the area that the crew moves along. Just remember not to film that area because a small clear area would look strange.
