Hi guys, I know that with DV tapes, if you film in SP, you can after fiming narrate on a second audio track. I'm working on big film now and what we want to do is put the whole film without music on DV tape and then add it directoly into the camera.Does anyone know how strong the audio is on the second track of DV tape? Does erase the first track or is it quiet? Thanks, --Jerome |

you're right and wrong about re-recording on the same tape. the thing is, when you do your voiceover, you're gonna record over one of the tracks. if your camera has a mono-sound system (one channel of audio), it will record the same audio onto BOTH tracks, so if you do a voiceover on one track, when you play it back the original sound will be half as loud and only coming out of one speaker. just mix your audio on an sound or editing system and lay it back to tape, it'll make for a better product.------------------ Monkey Sea Entertainment - renovated as of January 2001 ------------------------- Moviemakers Portal (moviemaking-only search engine) |

Thanks sketchman, My camcorder is stereo so I'm not scared that it will effect the other track.Unfortunately the film I'm dling is about 50 minutes and I don't have enough HD space for that. That's why that's what I wanted to do. Can someone please answer the last part please? [i]Does anyone know how strong the audio is on the second track of DV tape[Ii] |

Being recorded digitally, there should be no difference in volume between the two. If there is a dsicrepencay, just boost the seignal through an audio mixer when you make the master copy. Beware however that you are not splitting your audio onto the two discreet stereo channel as previously mentioned. Some cameras do this, and your end product will be a bit odd if all the dialogue and FX are on left and music on the right. Other cameras do allow you to use a separate audio track. The XL-1 for example gives you two separate stereo tracks or 4 mono tracks. | |
