Hey people. I need some suggestions for legal ways I can create the effect of bullet hits in the dirt and on rock faces. I was thinking about using a paintball gun for the dirt hits. Will it harm the gun to use frozen balls? Know of a place I can get some specialized balls for this or how to make some? Thanks. |

Someone on a paintball field I used to go to got shot with a frozen paintball in the gut, and it killed him. I know paintball guns misfire sometimes and I'd strongly suggest another means of acheiving that effect. |

You know those little poppy things you get at toy stores, and when you turn 'em inside out they pop up in the air? They look like little bowls or sumptin (i hope you know what i'm talking about) Well, i did something like that for a small blast. what i did was turn one inside out and, instead of putting it on the ground so it flies up into the air, i put it upside down and put some light dirt in it(sand also works) when it went off, it blasted the dirt into the air in a way so it looked like a bullet shot. also, because when you turn 'em upside down after setting them, they lean at an angle, they also launch at an angle, which helps with the effect.Phil the Giant Robot ------------------ Winston Churchill once tried to predict the future, but stopped after awhile, saying, "The future is just one damned thing after another!"

those little plastic things look like domes. i used to get them in gumball machines. thats a great idea, if you can time it right, sometimes they "pop" pretty quick.Later Tom |

Yeah! thats them! well, i figure you could just get a little garden shovel and dig a tiny little hole and stick the popper in it so you couldn't see it, then put dirt/sand in it. however, you would have to start filming immediatly after you set them because, yes, they do pop pretty qwick.unless you could rig it up un some way so that when the actor stepped in a certain place, they would pop. Hey! theres an idea. get a stick or something and wedge it under the popper, then when the actor steps on one end of the stick, it'll pop the popper. you'll also have to figure out a way to keep them from popping to soon, but its late for me to think right now. cyaPhil the Giant Robot ------------------ Winston Churchill once tried to predict the future, but stopped after awhile, saying, "The future is just one damned thing after another!"

I have no Idea what the brand name would be, but as the other guy said, you could prolly get some in gumball machines in the little prize eggs. i'm in a toy store right now and they've got a couple right in front of me (i'm using thier puter ) you'll probably just have to go around town looking. they're not too expensive, in fact, about 75 cents! so, uh, yeah.Phil the Giant Robot ------------------ Winston Churchill once tried to predict the future, but stopped after awhile, saying, "The future is just one damned thing after another!"

Here is a Cheap Idea I saw on the second tape of the "Private Ryan " Movie. Stepen Spielburg(however you spell it) used it when he was a kid.Make sure that the soil is nice and loose, then using a rock or something for a fulcrim, take a small board and put it so that when you step on one end the dirt shoots up. make an explosion sound and there you go. I know it sounds cheesy. but it looked good the way they were showing it. Hope that helps ------------------ "You Mean you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword and we'll try and kill each other like civilizied people?" -William Goldman, "The Princess Bride" Visit my Online Bio http://www.kyd.net/valg |

I am almost complete finishing a REALLY graphic war film. I used firecrackers (even though they're illegal, but no one seemed to care). Sometimes I used compressed air (which is good if it's close to a person). I also used the dirt on the board with the fulcrum for some of the land mine parts. It works good, but I suggest using really dry dirt (I bought some). -Hope this helped a little. -AD |

I belive that there is a type of small fire cracker called Black Cats? (I'm not sure) but they are small (Bullet Hole small) and if you put under a bit of dirt and lite them they'll make a nice little hit, and a good sound too! Oh and your American aren't you things like that shouldn't be to hard to get a hold of there.....hehehe Hope This Helps... |

Yeh the black cats work great...if you can get them...other wise the "saving private Ryan movie thing" is the next best...but someone has to run by it and if you don't want that then it will not work.------------------ "I love the smell of napalm in the morning...it smells like victory!" Oh yeh...were i live i think they banned those dome things...they would pop up and hit a kid in the eye or someone chocked on them or gave a kid plister (from using on your arm) or something...so they don't sell them here anymore...but i kept a few...so i guess be careful and don't give yourself hickeys with them!!!------------------ "I love the smell of napalm in the morning...it smells like victory!" I completely forgot about those poppers. They were real great. If you place something in the shape of a dice beneath it, put it upside down on and let it pop, it gets double power. If you want to control its popping (which I never succeded with as a kid) you could perhaps squeeze its sides together with some sort of a jointed y-shape which can be triggered with a string you hide in the soil. Then you can control just when you can wait for it to pop. (Remember, the longer you keep it squeezed together, the longer it will take for it to pop, and the more fierce shalt the pop become.) |
