For my war movie, there is a scene where a bomb goes off right beside this guy. Then I must show the guy crawling across the ground and the one side of him almost 'melting' off. I must find a way to do this without the use of a computer and i have vary limited money. do any of u have some suggestions? the main problem here is that the figure musty crawl and groan and act like a actual person. i'd like it to look as real as possible too.

effects like that are generlly done with a computer. Dont write heavy special effects into your script if you dont have the use of a computer. Just have him crawl around dieing, then take this post to the Makeup forum and have them tell you how to make his arm look all nasty, etc.

NJRfilms,
melting effects can be done with make-up as well. There is more to make-up than making an arm look nasty. This post WAS in the make-up forum. I'm not sure why it was moved.

I moved it because no one in the makew-up form ever answers

If you have Adobe Premire then you can maybe use some kind of Blue Screen thing, sorry I'm kinda stumped on this one.

First of all Silverblade, people in the MAKEUP FORUM DO respond. I check several times during the day and I'm sure Critter and Dale both do also, but I'm not going to be the only one who posts answers when there are others who know a lot about makeup effects too. Critter is on there too a lot and he often responds - as does Goremaster, Jeff Walker and many others. I try to hold back so it doesn't become a one man show in there. So if you have to wait for a half a day or a day, so what. If you need answers immediately, post that in your SUBJECT line.

Also, YOU can't move any message from any forum to any other forum. All you did was to post it in two places. That's fine. But this is a MAKEUP FORUM question and these questions DO belong there. Dale, Critter and I will keep an eye on the posts to see what belongs and is relevent where. If it needs to get moved, it will get moved to the proper forum. Don't be so impatient. Everyone is more than willing to help if you'll just give them a little time to respond.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

the reason I haven'tsaid much on it is because of 2 factors. 1) I can get very busy on occasions. 2) from your description this is a very complicated effect that may need more than make-up effects. I will try and give it my best shot but if it is not completely or as extreme as you wanted it I'm
sorry. First the clothing.
the clothing should be cut out on the places that are melting. The ends should be ragged and burned. For the melting it may be difficult. SInce it is on a live actor I would think of first making gelatin appliances covering those areas. Make it so there is warm temperature while this is filming. make the skin on the appliances torn in a few places, bubbled up and burnt. have tubes that will empty out under the appliances. pump witchhazel through the tubing. I would suggest dying it a red color.
do not pump it through anything near the face though. Remember, the warmer you can get the temperature during the filming, the easier it will come apart. When you make the gelatin, make it a little more opaque than usuall so that make-up can be applied to the skin under neath.
WHEEWWWWW
I hope that helps you some. good luck.

Something like this has to be done with makeup of some kind. People seem to think computers can to anything by just pushing a few buttons. You can't.
Now I'm sort of leaving cgi to go more for models and such. It's easier, faster, better.

I like your philosophy videoman1. I think make-up should be used for these kind of effects as much as possible. If make-up can not do it alone, then cgi can be used WITH it(not replace it).
