What is a good program for doing a cartoon? I have Poser, Bryce, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Premiere, After effects, and such but they work best for my special effects work. I need an alternative to cell animation that hopefully looks a notch better than Southpark.
Any ideas?

I have this really old program... Disney Animator. It's decent even though it came out in 92.

I personally use after effects for all my animation(except for stop motion). I do cut out style, like the monty python animations, also called motion graphics I beleive if you do it with a computer, or something, I have a book that explains the difference, but there really isnt one other than the computer bit...
anyway, it works quite well for me(though if anyone compares my work to Southpark I get very offended!) and its nice N fast. Another way you can do it is to build a big glass table and have multiple planes for the cutouts, then shoot from the top down frame by frame. I find it much faster to use after effects, and easier to fix if you screw up, etc, etc. Anywho, hope this helps.
Oh, you can check out one of the animations I did with after effects at www.bizdistrict.com/newyears I did that new years day in about 4 hours including all graphics creation, concept, animation, and about 12 different renderings to get the best quality with with an acceptable download time and compatibility with *cough*sucko* macs.

Dont and I repeat dont get Disney Animation Studio (DAS)

It was a direct copy of DAS on the Amiga from 2 years earlier.

If you want something you can draw Cells with then either get WinUAE (Amiga Emulator) and DPaint 5.5 and PPaint 7.1... OR there is a small piece of software for sale at www.cosmigo.com OR you could wait untill PPAint has been ported and improved completely for the PC and will be released in 6 months or so if we are lucky under a different name.

If you don't want Cell animation and prefer "South Park" type of animation then there are plenty of programs... you just need to find how to use them to get the effect you need.

And remember that Cell animation is best done on paper and scanned in.

There is a 3D Studio MAX plugin called CartoonReyes which will filter your 3D output to make it look like cell animation, more like anime than anything else. Don't know the site right at the moment, look it up on the web and I'm sure it's not hard to find.

I use after effects and photoshop for my animation needs. you can do it without getting that choppy cutout look. After effects really cuts down on the number of frames you have to draw. For a project I am currently working on I have about 350 drawings for 5 minutes of animation. hope you have a good amount of ram though.
