okay, this is kind of strange, but i want to catch someones eyes on fire, nothing else, just the eyes. needless to say, i don't want to do this directly to the persons eyes, or he may wind up blind. is there any way i could do this in my puter. i have photoshop and premiere. oh, and another thing, i thought of setting some ping pong balls on file and superimposing them, would this work? if so, how could i do it? by the way, i scoured the net and this entire forum, and didn't find anything, so i would appreciate some help. thanx

Hi. You could
a) Film the flaming golfballs.
Have the actor were solid color contacts (red, blue, yellow, green), then in premiere, make the eyes transparent, so the flaming golfballs sho through.

b) (the better choice) Use the eyecandy fire filter and go through frame by frame to get a very realistic fire.

Eyecandy? I've always thought that fire filter, while easy, looks horrible, even for still images. And it's no longer easy when you have to do each frame and there's no easy animation control.

I think you're on the right track going the other way. Now, I can't say from experience what would actually happen if an eyeball caught on fire, in fact I think it would probably be pretty hard to catch an eyeball on fire in the first place. But if you take the footage of your actor and measure out very precisely where his or her eyes fall in the frame, you can line up another frame with your ping pong balls placed exactly the same way. Mount them above a matte surface (blue or black, depending on what kind of key you want to do and if your final project will be in color), light 'em up, hope they don't roll around too much, and then composite them in. With luck, they match up fine on the first try. If not... well, there's the second try, and the third, and the fourth... no one said this stuff was easy.

How much do those coloured contacts go for?
