Hey all. I am looking for some good software, I have a fairly fast Compaq with a Pen. 3 and about 8 gig of space to use. (I plan to eventually piggyback a 25 to 30 gig hardrive to use only for editing, but still a ways off.) I want to know what you guys recommend as far as versatility, user friendly, and affordability. I need to be able to edit, dub sound, perform some visual effects. Do I use a single program, several? Until now, I have used rented equipment but would like the ability to do it on my computer at my own pace and without a deadline. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I plan on mixing film (Possibly super 8) with slo mo and variable speed effects with video. Any suggestions on maintaining a even look in the transition? (For hallucinatory effects, not whole scenes.) To explain, I have a project involving stop motion and miniature effects to be filmed in super 8 and transferred to video to edit. I will be mixing stop motion with slow motion explosions, and live action. Any suggestions? Thanks all.

Hi, first you will need a capture card (something to get the video into your computer) if you are using a digital video camera, then get a firewire/1394 card. If you are using an analog camera get a capture card (I use the dazzle* digital video creator usb version and love it-I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS!-street price $250.00) Next you will need software. many people will tell you adobe premier, in a way, I agree yet, I use Media Studio Pro 5.2 (soon to be 6.0 from ulead- www.ulead.com -) and it is great! It has a special effects program, an audio editor program, a video editor program, a computer graphics generation (CG) program, a video wizzard (for beginners) program!!! It runs for $500.00-600.00 street, but I got my version on www.ebay.com for only 250.00 now I see ones on ebay going for like 130.00! (oh whell! :-) ) The ulead software comes in a bundle (sold together) but is many separate programs, this I think gives it the lead over premier because each program can be more task specific. It is very easy to use with a good manual. Once you read it, you will practically know how to use it in and out.MovieDirector |

many thanks, I will search for it. I still have a lot in the way of preproduction to go, but will use whatever software I decide upon with home video and test footage. I have been told I could use a digital camera to take stills and combine them to make a stop motion effect. One of my projects involves a great deal of stop motion with live action. I had planned on using a super 8 set up for this. Any thoughts? Again, thanks, I will check out what you said... | |
