I'm just starting to get into bluescreen effects and live action. I have after effects and am wondering what software would be best to give me more powerful keying abilities. I know that upgrading to the production bundle is one option but I was wondering if I would be better off spending my money on a third party plugin? I haven't done any tests yet with what I have, my experience with AE has only been with animation. |

I hear Ultimatte is supopsed to be really keen. I ve seen some results using it, and it worked out very well, much better than the keying that comes with the production bundle |

A little off topic, but do you need a specific blue or green. I know this has been asked before because I read the archives, but it never really answers it, some say yes and some say no. |

Do you need a specific color? For the most part, no. However, some pieces of hardware (like the SIMA SFX-M..which I ended up not buying) are pretty finicky. One of the sponsors of this board (can't remember who) sells some paints (in Chromakey blue/green and their Ultimatte equivalents) which should work marvelously. Of course, you can always go to Home Depot, grab some paint chips, and see what colors work well with what you've got. Go find the nastiest blue, and the most revolting green, and you've got a good start =)As for programs, I've gotten some good keys with Axogon Composer (www.axogon.com), but it's pretty particular about the consistent lighting...Ultimatte's probably your best bet...though it's not cheap... ------------------ ~AidanK~ Give a man a match and he'll be warm for an hour; set him on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. http://www.genericanime.cjb.net |

D'oh! addendum to my previous post: I was reading the Ultimatte FAQ, and I came across this:Q: Do I have to use red, green or blue? A: Yes, the patented Ultimatte algorithms will only work with these three colors and will yield best results when specific colors, such as Ultimatte Blue/Green or Digital Blue/Green are used. <Ultimatte FAQ> well....guess that answers that question a bit more... ------------------ ~AidanK~ Give a man a match and he'll be warm for an hour; set him on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. http://www.genericanime.cjb.net | |
