Good luck going into movie production without a camera, capture card or software with only 400 bucks. A good camera is between $650-5,000. Capture card is from 200-1,000. SOftware you can get off the net or buy, buying it will be 250 if ur a student for after effects. If ur capture card is good ull get Premiere for free with it. Im assuming you have a computer with at least 128 megs of ram, and a big (20+ gig) hard drive, although you can get buy with 96 Ram and maybe a 13 gig HD. Also your Hard drive needs to be fast, 7200 rpm, espisly if your going with a firewire capture card. Film making and speical effects arent cheap when you go digital and want to NLE.

Good luck, and respond if you need more help/

Hehe. If you want it to be good you must spend money.
Get the sony TRV 103 from B&H, i talked them down to 700 bucks with 3 day shipping included. Get a capture card, the DV200 from www.videoguys.com, which is what i have. Thats 400 bucks. Thats $1,000 and you pretty much are set. The TRV103 is a great camera, as is the DV200. They work together great. It comes with full adobe premiere (even though u already have it, and no, they wont take money off the price of the card if u dont want software, i tried!).

Wait. If you already have Premiere and After Effects, then you won't need the DV200 capture card. (Even though it is really good.) The Intro DV by Pinnacle is a (supposedly) good capture card and it costs about $170-200. It should be perfectly suitable for what you need if you already have good software.
