Well put and worth repeating.

After reviewing some of the archives from this forum, I think it is worth making a comment on safety
and information sharing. Unlike many forums I have visited, this one appears to be regularly
monitored by working professionals. What readers of this forum must appreciate is the quandary
these professionals find themselves in when questioned on the details of a dangerous effect or stunt.
Ultimately, the desire of all forum contributors is to share and gain knowledge (AKA.
Free-discourse, a by-product of the 1st amend). When someone posts a message in the forum that
asks for the secrets of bomb building or some flame stunt, these professionals are placed in a tight
spot. If they divulge too little information, they may oversimplify a complex and dangerous process.
Too much information and potentially dangerous information is passed on irresponsibly. This is
morally questionable and professionally unsound. What results is often a reprimand stripped right off
the T.V. commercials; DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS. This message can be interpreted as
condescending, regardless of its intention. As a result, the subject is dropped and the whys and
whens are not fully explored. My point is this: If someone tells you it is dangerous, ask why. I'll bet
these pros will be glad to tell you and share their experiences that is what it is all about. Don't drop
out of the forum and search for a source more forthcoming, because we all gain from the discussion.
I am not a spfx or pyro tech, but in my own trade we are compelled to guard some things secret for
the good of all, at least until it can be determined that its recipient is sincere in intent. Do not expect
that the pro's are going to be able to make this call with just a few key strokes, and if you are
looking for the directions to make a 'bomb' you will not be handed the keys to the kingdom by
anyone of good conscience. That said, let us all benefit from the free exchange of ideas in a
responsible way. The impatient, the careless, and the immature may still find the potent answers they
seek, but as long as there are vigilant pro's out there, this forum will not degrade into an anarchist's
soap box.
