There are always those looking for a machine gun effect. Here's how some of the pro's may do it, but don't forget...I said pro's.Posted by John Weger on Wednesday, 27 May 1998, at 6:19 p.m. I'm from Canada and attended a basic 'fireworks and pyro' seminar last week... basic safety, regulations and that kind of thing, very minimal on actual 'use', but if anyone from Canada has questions regarding becoming licensed to use either pyro effects or Fireworks (two separate licences, up here) feel free to post a question or email me directly or contact the Explosives Division, a VERY small division of the Department of Natural Resources, Government of Canada. Now a question for the professional pyro guys here.. part of the course was a demonstration by a pyro guy up here who does alot of airshows. Actually, he runs his own show with a helicopter that fires rockets, etc. but that's another story. In the demo., they set up a mock 'strafing' run, where a cessna plane came in, fired it's 'machine guns' (det cord planted in the ground) and blew up a 45 gallon drum (liquid fuel with a lifter charge)... my question is how do they get the delay in the det cord charges to get the strafing effect. I know it was fired from a single board, off a single switch, so the delays must have been 'in line'. Is it electronic, or part of the way they are connected together or what? By the way, I have NO intention of trying ANYTHING like this... it's not possible to get det cord or anything unless you are extensively experienced up here, not that I'd want to. But I am interested in doing more work in this field, and was interested in the technique. Email directly if you'd rather not post.. whew, that was long! Thanks in advance... 'fly'

Posted by Mike Walling on Thursday, 28 May 1998, at 1:58 a.m., in response to Question and Info Re: Pyro., posted by John Weger on Wednesday, 27 May 1998, at 6:19 p.m.Okay the strafing runs running on only one cue are controlled by detonators called "Surface Delays" or "Non-Els." Surface delays are nonelectric detonators that are triggered by shock carried thru shock tube to each detonator, the delays can run from 9 M.S to 200 M.S delay. When the shock fires the fire detonator the delay is in the second detonator then the next and so on. 45 gals. is alot of fuel must have been one really nice fireball. Mike
