Hey I know this one!
This in a classic theatrical illusion called "Pepper's Ghost". A large glass sheet or semi transparent mirror(pellicle) is mounted in a set piece (maybe a door) at a 45 degree angle, behind the glass (set piece ) is a
lit background (maybe a tree or a bush).
The audience sees through the glass both the background/subject area straight ahead and the reflected image of the actor on the
glass. The stronger the light on your actor the stronger the super-imposition will be. A black background is needed behind the
actor to get him to look semi-solid. If the lighting on your actor is similar to that of your background area then it is
the trick works best. This of course involves a fair amount of set design (building the frame for the glass and box for the actor
and such) and a fair amount of lighting work.
You will use a separate light for your background area and your actor positioning them so they don't spill over onto your glass.
The most important part is "use your imagination" to make this technique work with your stage set".
Here I drew this little picture 4 ya. Good Luck and I hope ya scare the Dickens out of em.
