Ok, I'm trying to figure out how much my friends and I are gonna spend one audio. Right now we have 400-500 dollars. We were looking at the wireless mics at radio shack, and were thinking about getting 2 of the wireless lapel mics for 80 each, and the other big wireless mic for 90, and then the reciever for 80. Now thats already $330. Then we'll probaly go for a cassette recorder, and on my last post someone said I would need one that you can change the playback speed, I think I found what he was talking about on radio shack's website, for 80. My question is, what do you guys think about this setup? will it work?, and do I need anything else?, also does anyone use reel to reel? |

Try to avoid Radio Shack. Here are some good places to buy from: www.fullcompass.com www.musiciansfriend.com www.zzounds.com www.8thstreetmusic.com www.sweetwater.com Isaiah ------------------ "I'm a failure!" "Kid, you're not failure...it's just that your ideas are silly and dumb." |

A cassette recorder? uhm...hopefully you arent speaking of plain ole audio cassettes...That will yeild quite crappy results. I would personally recomend going with non-wireless mics for film or video, unless its some sort of guerilla shooting or something where you shouldnt look like youre videoing or anything. I have a reel-to-reel and Im pretty happy with it. I havent done any recording of dialog or anything with it, but It has excellent sound quality, better than CD in my opinion (much much better frequency response...bollocks to those who say you cant hear more than CD sample rates provide!) and very low noise when recorded correctly (as loud as possible without going over the ...threshhold I think they call it...) the tape is about 17 bucks for 1800 feet at radio shack, and about 9 for 900 feet, 1800 feet being 90 minutes at 3 3/4s ips (inches per second) and 45 minutes at 7 1/2 ips. The 900 ft. is 45 minutes at 3 3/4s ips and 22 1/2 minutes at 7 1/2 ips. these times are for 1 direction only, some units do stuff like 2 directions or 4-track mono, stuff like that. You can get reel to reel recorders fairly cheaply now, I got mine for 5 bucks from some cheerleaders at a fund raiser for a high school thing and they had no idea what it did, and Ive seen some around at the flea market for around 35. hope this helps some |

Believe it or not Ivan, Sony makes a professional Crystal sync walkman that records excellent sound, provided you have a decent microphone. The key is to get hi quality tapes such as chrome or metal and only record on one side. |

As for wireless, I highly recommend Azden's WMS-Pro. Its a popular product available for around $240, totally worth it. I just got it and it's great. Ther range is superb! Can work through multiple floors and walls! It comes with a receiver that conveniently goes on your camera's shoemount and a body pack transmitter that you can plug any miniplug mic into. Not only that, it comes w/ an awesome lapel mic and a dynamic mic. Its a great deal! -David ------------------ -DSS- Director, Producer, Editor, and Actor of Counter-Strike: The Movie [This message has been edited by dss (edited 03-04-2001).] | |
