As near as I can figure (and believe me, I spent a bunch of time last summer trying to figure), Ljudo has about 1150 sounds. I've always thought they were the best site on the web for sound effects, though I've only given HBK's site a cursory look so far and it could easily be just as good. Most of the effects I've downloaded from Ljudo are of pretty high quality, all things considered. Once you convert them from MP3 to AIF or WAV and see how large the files are, you realize there's quite a bit of audio info there.

It's interesting - there are sound effects sites out there kind of lurking in the corners of the net that you wouldn't have even imagined.

Yeah, it definitely is better. I looked up glass shattering and ended up with something like 140 matches, most of which were excellent. I've already used a ton of effects from that site in the last couple of days

I still think making your own is way more fun.

Shortcuts are alright, but they can substitute for technique - and that's why I have a problem with sound effects sites. 'Nuff said.

Uhm... rats.

Can somebody then just call me 'big daddy' ? Ok, I thought Ljudo was the only one with the crystal clear sound effects (although there a not that many..).

Learning everyday. But what about a small cheer then?

One way to get awesome sound effects is by using sfx from pc games.

If you have Half-Life, go to http://www.fileplanet.com and download PAKexplorer

i think it works with quake and many more games also.

you can use it to get the sounds from half-life.

There are some awesome helicopter sounds in hl.

check it out.

Pirating sounds from games is in my opinion NOT the way to go. It is ALWAYS far better to make em yourself when you can. If you cant, then go to those royalty free websites. Another thing you could do is to buy royalty free sound fx cds. Radio has two different versions. One has over 6000 royalty free sounds, and is called 6000 sounds. Another one has over 500 hundred VERY high quality sounds, as well as hundereds of amazing PICTURES to use as backgrounds, and 12,000 clipart images. That is the name of the cd, 12000 clip art, or something like that. These CD's go for about 9 dollars each. You can also get sound fx cds from theatrical supply companies.

Yeah, I suggested someone use Rainbow Six sounds (which can be very easily accessed), but then Jeff F got a bit mad. And he had a good reason too; you could get in trouble using game sounds. Really sucks.

I'm not picking a fight with Jeff, he just gave me a warning I deserved
