Is there a mic that would work well for recording live music? Before when I have tried it seems as the mic on the camera can not handle such loud noise. The bands that I record are normally playing very loud. Is there a mic that would work well to record this? How much will it cost me?

OK.. First of all, NEVER record live music in mono. You will regret it. Stereo ALWAYS sounds better no matter what in live music situations. So, you need either a stereo mic, or two regular mics. Most decent stereo mics are way overpriced, so I might suggest that you get two good Shure SM57s. They are rugged, they take a lot of abuse, they handle high SPLs, and they have excellent frequency response. They cost about $70 a piece, and believe me, you will not get a better mic for the money. Yeah, spending $140 doesn't sound so fun, but you will not regret it. The SM57 is so versatile and has such a good sound. I'd check out www.zzounds.com or www.musiciansfriend.com for the SM57.
One other thing - you need a recording unit that has mic inputs. What I have is an old Realistic (Radio Shack) dual cassette deck, and on the front it has two 1/4" phono TS jacks to plug in a mic. You'll need to get a cable for each mic that has a female XLR on one end, and a male 1/4" TS phono plug on the other end. Plug one into each mic jack, and right out of the box, you get beautiful, rich stereo sound. I've done it with an orchestra with two cheap crappy mics and it still sounded awesome. I'm sure you'll be happy with the SM57s.

Thanks for your help, once again. I'll take a look at those mics.
