what's the best and greatest priced microphone that i should buy? i need it for sound effects, as well as narration.

IMHO, you will want a cardiod pattern mike. For narration, you will want a good foam cover for the head to cut down on breath noises. For sound effects, you can use the same setup, and run it into a good tape deck or DAT.

I know you've been rejected, but since you can still view the boards... I wanna at least point you in the right direction. Ask for a shure SM57. They're totally versatile and sound incredible.

Brand new, about $79. Sometimes if you buy from www.musiciansfriend.com when they have a sale, you can get a free 20' cable with it. If you can find a used one that's in good shape for $55 or less, go for it. They're way worth it, and more.
