Hi, I recently bought the Audio Technica ATR 55 shogun mic which uses a 3.5mm miniplug. It turns out that it is pure crap to me. It has too much noise. I've experimented for some time and it must be the mic. I have other mics that sound very awesome and are miniplug mics. Also the "Tele" mode on the ATR 55 records audio on a part of the audio track that some firewire capture cards, like mine, can't read.
After doing a field shoot w/ the ATR55 and being paid $100
I decided if I continue in the "buisiness", I need to switch to better mics with little or no noise. Today I ordered the Studio 1 XLR-Pro adapter, which is an input box you attach to the bottom of your camera. All the details are at:
http://www.studio1productions.com/xlr-pro.htm
So now I can have XLR audio on my Sony Digital8 camera. Now I need XLR mics
I could probably buy a cheap XLR dynamic mic somewhere but I mainly need a mic for boom work. So far the best and most "affordable" boom mic is the Audio Technica 835b. The only probably is that it costs $280! Are there any cheaper but still good XLR shotgun mics out there? Please help!
