I think that speaks for itself, but I have a MIDI file that I want to change into a WAV. What can I download for FREE to do this, or can I do it without downloading anything?

Get into your sound recording program, make sure your Windows mixer settings are set up so that MIDI/Synth is recorded, then hit record and start playing your MIDI file.

That helps, but not much, I'm sort of 'Sound Illiterate' on the computer. I can open my sound program and my MIDI, but the whole MIDI/Synth thing you lose me on.

You basically have to assign what audio source you want to record from. Open Volume Control from your bottom toolbar, then select "Options", and then "Properties". Select 'Recording' in the "Adjust Volume for" area. Now select 'Mixed Output' as the source you will record from, by clicking on the little checkbox. Then, as Prism said, just hit record and play your MIDI. Good Luck!

No, it isn't working.
Would either of you guys mind me actually sending you the MIDI and you doing it? It's a small size as most MIDI's are. You could post the WAV in a Driveway account or something and I could download it that way. I don't know why it isn't working for me.

If you can play a MIDI on Winamp (www.winamp.com), you can record it to a .WAV. Winamp is free and has a "how to" forum which includes very specific instructions to convert to .WAV files.

Or if your MIDI is from, say, a synthesizer, you can jack it into your PC and use the built in 'Sound Recorder' under your start-up menu. You'll just have to mess with the input levels so you don't get distortion.
