ok...learning how to create the effects has been done and posted a million and one times, but where are the actual sound effects found? i searched the web, with VERY minimal results. i thought about capturing them right off of the original movies, but the quality would be low and you would also get the music in the background. can anyone help? |

Did you check under "star wars wavs" at a search engine? |

Vell, ever heard about dont ripping of other persons work..They might have worked heard to make the sound. And I dont think that was `cause you should go and rip it from them.. If you want to ripp of sounds after oll I think you should ask for premission to use the sounds and give them som credit for exsample on a intro or at a "tanx list" at the the end of your movie..I think that movies/films are ripping of each other.`cause they might be afride to do some thing new. Take for instans The Matrix. Many ppl (people) loved the movie `cause thay havent seend that way of making moives at `fore. The risk is if you are trying to do something new you might get very good respons or the film might be a "failure". And on the other hand( the felt one) many ppl just see bond films `cause they have seen all the other Bond films `fore, and they dont one miss the next one. The Bond film have had a very "simple" script til now but it have been talked about getting everybody that have played 007 to play in the same film. That are something new, and shows that some in the movie bissniss are willing to take a risk and not always to get as many money out of a film that is posible. Only my opinium

A simple technique you may try to simulate a lightsaber sound is to use an electric hair razor and turn it on within a large metal mixing bowl, move it around in there, perhaps add a large carpet tube and listen to it from the other end - neat sound fx. |

Norm, thank you! This is the first real suggestion I've seen on the board relating to this subject. Everyone wants to just steal the sounds from a movie, or find them for free on the web; I think we've forgotten that the fun of doing FX is being CREATIVE!------------------ TL daa Productions Nobody lives forever, so you might as well go out with a good caffeine buzz... There's always hope, because it's the one thing that they haven't figured out how to kill yet...

What i did was get the cleanest sound effects from the movies with out background music. There are some scenes where the saber makes noise and there is no music in the background. |

Doom are you high? Norm got that idea from the sound effects guys in star wars! Jesus.I would have suggested he use a boom mic and a speaker to get the lightsaber hum but thats not realistic. Hed have to find the right speaker and mic to get the right feedback hum and that wouldnt be easy to do. Besides the razor and mixing bowl was a highly modified element used to make the sound of the tanks in The phantom menace, not the damn lightsabers. In case you are not aware they use expensive effects equipment to alter those sounds, using that wouldnt get you a lightsaber sound but the sound of a razor and a metal mixing bowl. |

Hey man i would be glad to mail you a zip of all the saber wav files from the game Jedi Knight so you can use them....i think some of the people on the board need to chill with bashing other people wanting to know more about saber effects and as for making your own sounds. that would be cool but way to much trouble. Plus most of us dont have the equipment to do so. And if someone uses sounds from the movies or some of the games dont get so pissy with them. No one here is going to make a 2 hour saber movie and sell it on the net. Most likely it is for personal amusment. so lay off |

I dont think its a big deal to use pre made sound fx, but I do agree that its always healthy to be creative and do it yourself. The closest thing I got to a lightsabre sound was by taking a microphone and sticking it right up to a computer monitor, I cranked up the gain, added lots of low end EQ and I'd gently swipe the mic accross a "loud area" (depending on the placement I could get different levels of hum) on my monitor. I would turn of my speakers and use headphones to hear the result and record it directly onto my computer. Then you can tweak it even more by using some simple sound apps. |

i have a question that doesnt matter where you got the sounds.....say for instance i make a saber video. what is a good way to sink up the audio and video?.....for instance some of the saber wavs i have are far to long or to short in length to match the video. i have tried to do this in after effects. is there a better program out there to do this with. |

well I know of a way but it would cost you more money for new software. I downloaded a demo of sound forge and it can speed up the sound track (not soundtrack!) or change the pitch bend to get the perfect length you need.If you have any more questions dont hesitate. |
