Im going to have a light saber battle in one of my movies, like the ones in StarWars, but the boring thing is that I haven't the slightest idea how to do this. Can anybody help me? I use the program M100 and svhs.

ps. I have seen this in amateur movies on the net and that looked good.

What they did in Star Wars was use like ninja type swords with the specific handle design they wanted. Then they painted in the light glow in post production. I've seen a behind the scenes to the movie and say them doing all the scenes with regular metal swords.

I thought is some scenes they used highly reflective swords and lit them the color they wanted. Regardless, in the end they wound up painting over them.

I'm not sure if you have chromakey or if this woud work, but if they could be the same color, you could paint two plastic sword blue or green and them tapes a bright red red light light. WHen you do the chroma key the light should matte over the swords only.

Good Luck

Absolutely !!! I've recently completed just such a project, and I must say that the results looked like they could have been done by ILM !!! Purchase the program "MediaPaint" from Strata (1-800-strata3d)...it actually has a tool specifically for creating lightsabers & lasers. Make sure you shoot your video in a relatively darkened area (it helps provide contrast)and ensure that your actors are holding brightly-colored sticks of some sort for you to paint over. Make sure they are perfectly straight and of equal length. Also, remember to acurately render the motion blurring of the sabers as they are being swung. I recommend watching a few of the Trilogy's duels frame by frame to get an idea of what I mean. MediaPaint also has a tool for painting the "flashes" that occur when the sabers make contact with one another (absolutely esential for realism !!!)
Add some lightsaber sounds, and your results will make George Lucas proud. Hope this helps !!!
