I am making a zombie movie, but I have almost no budget, and I was wondering how to do semi-realistic make up for 20 zombies for under $200

It depends on what sort of zombies that you are looking for. The George Romero type (recent dead) or more like the ones in the Lucio Fulci films (Dead a long time and really messed up). Both can be done for very little cost. Personally, I prefer the ones that are really messed up. Post which kind you are looking for and I'm sure you will get all of the information that you can use. <CATMAN> P.S. Yes, I know that george Romero uses some messed up zombies as well, but most of his are simply dead folks.

About the body cast you were asking about last week. Where the Zombie bites the shoulder. I was thinking that Latex would work for the body, but to leave the shoulder open and fill it with a glob of glue. Mix equal amounts of Elmers Glue & Startch. The resalt is a shapable gumm like gue. Dragon

About the makeup. Make a latex mask that you can reuse over and over. That way you will save on cost. (Just make the mask thick) Dragon

Ok people, you wanna know how the bites were done. Tom Savini made a cast of the womans's shoulder and arm. He created a foam latex appliance from that with a space made for blood tubing. He precut the area that was to be bit then painted the skin underneath black. You could make a cast of the area with alginate. And paint liquid latex onto that. Make it thicker in some places so you can fit tubing underneath, powder the appliance, take it off, precut the hole slightly (just enough to fit the teeth under), attach tubing and you got it.

Gore Master and others,Yes that is exactly how Savini did the effect however, if you read about it further you also find out that the actor accidently bit into the girl's shoulder a little bit - enough to hurt but not permanently damage her in any way. So as with anything take a great deal of care and consideration what and how you do any effect you do using someone else's technique - not that Savini has an exclusive on it - but rather for the safety of the people involved. Learn from HIS mistakes. You could use the foam latex prosthetic appliance but before you glue it on put/glue a thin leather "plate" underneath it so it protects her in case the over zealous actor type starts the chewing routine. That will help a lot to keep him/her safe from injury and you safe from lawsuits - unless you have a contract and they sign away their rights to litigation. ) Have fun but be careful. FXMan
