I have rigged waterballoons that wrap around the actor under their costume, I need a lot of blood that's cheap, looks real, and can be found quickly. Hopefully....NOW! |

I looked at dyes and they stain clothes and can be expensive in great quantities, but I like the hair gel, it wouldn't make it as runny. Sorry, gore master. I expected answers, not insults. |

people are getting their heads chewed off for this makeup thing. I can see why goremaster is upset about it and all, so maybe all the gore fx that still gets posted here should be posted in makeup forum, maybe then it should be called makeup/gore forum? |

My blood recipe is posted in the make-up forum. Just scroll down. It looks better than anything you make with hairgel. Also you can get an idea of it all if you don't want to use all the ingredients. Oh, did I mention All the real gore I have seen? Trust me when I say, dyed hairgel does not look like blood. Also I see this from you over and over pyromaniac. It was not an insult, but I get tired of repeating things to the same person. no insult. |

The problem with almost all the blood recipies posted on the board is that they contain corn syrup, which is something i have been unable to find where i live. Any suggestions on an alternative???Dale Jenner

I get a cooking herb, type thing called Arrowroot. You put a small amount of this in with warm water and mix it around. ( It makes it go a little gluggy so it doesn't run, the more arrowroot the thicker it gets ) I then mix in some childrens red powder paint ( this does wash out ) and mix a little blue as well for the right colour. It works well for me |

hmmm, no corn syrup in Australia? Well if anyone is looking to make some money to buy equipment, I would suggest opening up a corn syrup company in australia.

Hey SpeedMetal and others,Nobody is getting their heads chewed off for posting obvious makeup effects questions in this forum. They are being informed and that's all. Sadly they may have to be informed repeatedly. Webmaster Dale went to the trouble of setting up a specific forum for those kinds of posts and while new people come on to these boards they may not know it's there. But I can't see how anyone could miss it since you have to go through the main pages to get here. Don't take offense at the information. It takes time to get people used to things like this. But to put it to rest, EVERYONE at least TRY to ask the pertinent questions in the pertinent forum. HOWEVER, it's still no problem if you goof up and accidently post here. The moderators watch as closely as time permits and move these posts around. So if one disappears, go looking in the appropriate forum and it may be there. But let's not get angry with one another over a non-issue. But if the same people are posting here and not in the proper forums just because they're lazy, then that's another issue that will be dealt with by Dale. Let's continue to try to be civil. Thanks. I have not tried the arrow root idea but I would recommend standard food dyes over childrens' paint to get the right color. The base of my new blood is sorbitol(no I didn't rip you off critter). The color scheme I used was the same as my cornsyrup rec. except an extra tsp of yellow. The color is PERFECT. Especially on film. It looks a bright warm red, and a rusted orange when smeared. The texture and consistency is great. I won't be giving the rest of the recipe since it looks like it will be sold. |

I used to use this as a quick cheap and easy way to make blood. For the sake of argument, lets say you need a gallon. Try two quarts Ketchup (Yes, ketchup, use a good thick brand) Two quarts vinegar (Clear as possible) and one quart hot water (Throw in some liquid detergent to help keep stains down. easier to clean up.) mix well and add or reduce the amount of hot water to get the appropriate thickness. Trust me, smells bad and looks a bit thin but will work in a hurry. It'll only keep a few days even if refrigerated, so only make what you need.------------------ Once I thought I was mistaken, but I was wrong. Ever thought about Hershey's Strawberry Syrup??? A bit thin but it does a great job. And its not too expensive, and requires no modifications.------------------ "V is for victory! Go tell your friends!"

No modifications? Have you ever seen blood that looks like strawberry syrup. Depending on how it will be shown the last suggestion could be a quick cheap alternative. |

Well, a few of my earlier movies had chocolate syrup because I shot them in black and white. Depending on how you use the strawberry syrrup, it can work verry well.------------------ "V is for victory! Go tell your friends!"

I basically mixed just about everything ya'll said and used it for the pool of blood Cassius slips on that surrounds the corpse. The actor who played Caesar brought red food colering and Kayo syrup, which looked more purple than it did red. We stopped paying attention to the lines and we just kicked Caesar in the nuts. Were gonna pick up tomorrow. He was feeling sick from swallowing it by accident and threw it up while I was recording so I'm keeping it. They really want to have bloopers like kicking Caesar in the nuts and shooting him with a blow gun. Can you think of some? |

If the only color you add is red of course it won't look right. Many people just don't understand how many colors are in blood. |

The actor playing Caesar brought that blood mix cause he was gonna have it coming from his mouth. Sometimes it might not look real, but its better than tasting like s--t. |

Ummm, I was not talking about taste. I was talking about why that blood looked purple. Oh, I tried the ketchup thing earlier. Than only thing I got from doing it was an extreme feeling of nausea. It reminds me a lot of tomato juice. |

The ketchup vinegar trick is only suggested as a last minute thing. Course, it does remind me a lot of the old Hershel Gordan Lewis movieblood. Whenever possible, I rely on a decent formula of Karo syryp and Red with some blue and yellow mixed in. Course, some of my favorite shots, (Gun shots, knife wounds, fight cuts) have been done with the powdered blood mix acquired from any number of stage and halloween stores. Mix liberally with spit and voila! Perfection. Now if only I could buy the stuff in bulk. (If spit grosses you out, use clear liquid detergent mixed with hot water.)------------------ Once I thought I was mistaken, but I was wrong. |
