I predict a moderator will close this thread in..oh....let's see....less than 24 hours...... I agree with them. Explosives such as squibs are extremely dangerous, even in the hands of a liscensed professional. ------------------ "V is for victory! Go tell your friends!"

ok, what ya gotta do is get a friend and a slingshot, then get some peices of sharp metal and have him shoot it at the actor that is going to be using the squib, this will save you lots of time coming to the inevitable end that you will come to if you build your own squibs and use them unliscensed------------------ I was normal once..... I didn't like it. check my site http://novicepictures.8m.com |

WEll since it's moved to a computer generated question I won't close it. Anyway, I have about a dozen squibs I've had for some time. The way these things are made is unusual. I don't know for sure. But I understand that the explosive stuff is in liquid form and these two wires are "dipped" into it creating a tiny teardrop of the solution that is apparently quite thick. it then dries and when the two leads are activated using a 9v battery the thing explodes. You COULDN'T make them unless you had VERY specific kinds of explosives and a way to keep these things stable while making them. VERY DANGEROUS. I've used them - not as body hits - but they can do some major damage. I used them with some spark powder to do a fake electrical blast at one point. And the WHOLE time I used them I was scared to death in the handling of them just because you never know what's going to happen. Even static electricity would be enough to set them off if the two lead wires are touched. So whatever you do leave it to the pros.FXMan |

I was under the impression that a squib was an electric igniter. Isaiah |

As I said, a squib is a small explosive device that when current is applied to it, it explodes with whatever force that the squib itself was designed to create. You can get different size squibs for greater or lesser explosion. The device itself is described above in my previous post. At least the things I have are squibs. Other people may have a different view of what they are. But I didn't buy them. A friend of mine who is a pyrotechnician got them for me for the effect I was doing as I explained. But you're right HBK, I think you all know now what they are and SHOULD realize that they should only be used by professionals who are trained and licensed to use them. Therefore I think this thread is closed. The guy who bought them for me taught me how to use them so I felt safe enough though I KNOW they're still pretty touchy to use. PLAY SMART and then play safe.FXMan |

A squib is an electrically ignited trigger charge used to set off some larger explosion or combustion. Typically when someone is talking about a squib on this board, they mean a squib in conjunction with a powder charge or blood hit. One who applies the misnomer is throwing out the first tip that they shouldn't be using them . Air hits are safer. ------------------ Liquid courage is better than none at all.
