I was thinking about the eternal question of doing bullet hits with compressed air and wndering if I could do it with those little CO2 containers. Then I remembered this contraption a friend picked up at a Headshop to do Nitrous hits from the same kind of containers. My question is, what sort of valve could I use to cap this little tools to keep the pressure high and release it quickly enough to perform the hit. Anyone have any ideas?Brien (I do not condone the use of nitrous, I am just saying where I found the item)

Try picking up a cheap paint ball gun, and modifying it. If you are under 18, please let your parents know what you are up to and have some one help you out.For those that I had talked to about getting some when they were on sale here, they were gone before I had the chance to pick any more up. I'm sorry about that, and not letting you know. I've been a little busy lately. ------------------ Rex Winfrey Critter Creation Shop

They sell empty paintball shells you could fill with blood, but I'm not sure what a different liquid other than the paint would do when or if a part of the body was struck with one. In the archives I know there are plenty of diagrams and instructions on how to acomplish this. |

2 problems with shooting someone w/ blood filled paintballs.... 1) ahole will not bloow open in the clothing. All you will see is a splash of blood explode onto their clothing. 2) most importantly, you can easily miss and hit someone in the face causing injury(that is why people playing paintball wear masks). |

I have no plans on shooting my actors with a paintball gun, i doubt they would like it anyway. I would like the resource for the empty paintballs for bullet hits on walls and the ground and such, if anyone can help me out there.I think I am going to modify the plans for a air cannon to do compressed air hits without a garden sprayer. I will let you know how that works out. Brien |

I was not sugesting you shoot them with blood bullets. This should be looked at very carefully before trying it. I was sugesting modifying a paintball gun as the source and trigger for the compressed air. The cheaper guns do not use as large a shot of gas, and are lower pressure. The fittings and tubing will need to be safely tested before trying this near a human. I sugest test on this be done inside a 3/4 inch thick plywood box, with string on the trigger. If, after firing it, the box is intact, look inside and see of the gun and tubing is in one piece. Then consider, after three or four more in-box test shots, fire it at a distance to visually see what it is doing (a good 30 feet would probably be a minimum distance).I'm not about to suggest any methods for modifying the guns, talk to a qualified machinist, and or mechanical engineer. You may be able to find both that would help out for free if you explain what and why you want it. ------------------ Rex Winfrey Critter Creation Shop

Critter and others. I know none of you said anything about firing blood paintballs. If you look above my last post you will see the person who DID suggest that. Sorry to all about the confusion. |

I know the dangers of paint balls and there misses or a change in the density of the fluid inside the capsle. But if its at a leg at close range... any how like I said there are pleanty of diagrams of using compressed air in the archives. |

I would just like to repeat that I have no intention of shooting my actors, except the one who is constantly late. I am using an air compressor and electric valves to control the air. I am in the final stages of putting this thing together.Brien

To adjust the air flow from a CO2 canister you must go to a certified (or at least qualified) airsmith (the fancy name for the guy who fills up the empty CO2 canisters). They can teach youy every thing you need to know about using a CO2 canister for compressed air. Just go to a paintball store and get him to teach you, they are pretty nice and most are willing to help you. I had a similar idea and my friend is an airsmith so I'm going to keep him on the set when I'm shooting. Don't use nitro, it runs cold while CO2 runs warm, and after draining a nitro tank for a minute or two, even in short bursts, it can freeze the skin. A CO2 canister will only heat up to body temperature.------------------ See you on the paintball field.

Today I saw a CO2 bottle at a computer store. It was sold to blow dust off computers. It is very small, and has a threaded fitting on it. There is a plastic nozzle on the fitting to control the direction of the gas. The nozzle can be removed, and tubing to the blood bag attached. The duster is very small, and it was I think 19 bucks with three CO2 cartridges. The store was CompUSA. I was looking for something else, and found those. They might work great for hits with out having the actor tied down with a hose. The unit can be palmed easily.------------------ Rex Winfrey Critter Creation Shop
