I need help making an exploding head. The scene calls for a shot from behind of a head exploding. I need help making a cheap head and a way to make it explode, blood included, without the use of explosives. |

all though some may argue with me. This leans more toward the make-up area.The fact that it's from behind may make this easier. You don't have to worry about the face. You can create a head out of gelatin or slush latex.
You first make a head shaped sculpture than make a cast of that with plaster. Fill the mold a little way with latex or gelatin and slosh it around to coat the edges. Make them fairly thick. Then you can punch or lay hair onto the area. The one way that comes to my head AT THE MOMENT is to make it a BREAKAWAY.
this mean that it's cut into sections and put back together with a weak glue so that certain sections will either come off or fall over. I would suggest leaving most some of the very bottom and a section on the BACK of the head(remember the exploding head in "glory"?). A length of large tubing can be
run through the neck area up to the head(aiming at the top). Attach this to an insecticide sprayer. Fill the insecticide sprayer with blood and pump some of it into the tubing so it is closer to the top. You can stuff some brain matter into the end. The pieces of the head can be glued together with sticky cornsyrup. Creating the head to breakaway and fit together properly will take some planning. When you are ready to blow the head, give the sprayer as much pressure as possible. Remember, the thicker the pieces are, the easier to blow. Bett to give the pieces layer for a better effect. Also if designed properly, you can make it so there is one detachable piece at the top of the head. More blood and brains can be poured in through the top. The cornsyrup bond would have to be dry and strong enough to hold. One good thing is that this can be done more than once with the same head so you can test it.[This message has been edited by gore master (edited 03-27-2000).] | |
