Many people have been asking how to make a realistic knife cut. I saw this method on "The Making of ER." Prodecure: 1. Obtain a DULL knife, fake blood, tape, and a pipette (plastic eye-dropper type thing). 2. Fill the pipette with fake blood and tape it to one side of the knife so that when sqeezed, it will squirt the blood out at the blade. 3. Hold the knife so that the end without the pipette is facing the camera. Sqeeze the bulb of the pipette with your hand as you drag the knife across the victim. If done right, the effect should look like you are actually cutting into skin. Happy movie making!!! Helix |

Oh, and I forget: MAKE SURE THE KNIFE BLADE IS DULL!!! You don't want to actually cut someone up. I can't stress this enough. Before you try this, MAKE SURE the knife can't cut anyone.------------------ Helix Have fun... Make a movie! |

Cool. I've heard about it, but had never seen a pic of it before. It's exactly how I imagined it! Where'd you get the pic?------------------ movies wouldn't be movies without the SPECIAL EFFECTS!

A pippete can be purchased at any lab supply store. You can also find them in almost any children's lab set. If you wash them, they are reusable, but I recommend buying at least 10 (they are very, very cheap). Below are links to places that sell them. You can find many more places on the web using a search engine. www.essentialoil.net/other.htm http://www.libertynatural.com/package/pipettes.htm http://www.nor.com.au/business/austento/pasteur_plastic_pipettes.htm [This message has been edited by Helix777 (edited 04-14-99).] |

My father was technical director on a play (Sweeney Todd, Demon Barber of Fleet Street) in which they had to slash the throats of many victims through the play. He used this technique but added an additional blade to the knife so that from EITHER side there appeared to be a blade, the pipette was hidden between them and the gap was disguised (with duct tape.) In addition, he made a simple trigger in the handle that allowed the actor to squeeze the handle and compress the bladder. It looked great, even from the front row! |

Very good method but you don't always need to do that. Depending on the cut it will not bleed that much, especially not right away. If it is a cut to the arm or similar and depending on the shot. you could put a little blood on the blade and slash it(dull knife of course). just in case the shot is quick and doesn't need to bleed too much. |
