I need some advice on a fx sequence that my fx man can't figure out how to do. The scene involves a guy who begins to bleed uncontrolably and I want the blood just pouring like water out of his nose. I've seen this done in a couple Hong Kong films and have no idea how they do it and sadly my fx man couldn't figure the trick out either. An help would be great!

The only thing i could think of,,would be to have a tube running through the actors sleeve to his hand as he hold his nose...
this wont continuously run but u can start wth a blood soaked sponge in the dudes nose and when he squeezes it will run.
Well i hope my blablin at least gave u an idea.

Make a Thin prostetic nose to cover the actors real nose all the way up to the hair line use a SMALL tube and place it under the prostetic and into the hair line and just place the tube end near the tip of the nose and pump on command

If your scene doesn't involve the blood splattering on anything including the actor's face and chin, etc., try this:

1. film the shot of your actor going through the motions of the nosebleed.

2. setup a black velvet background (the least light absorbing material), use a bottle or syringe and fill it with your blood, and while watching your actor on a monitor, try to match the spots and action to where the blood pours out. You could also pour the blood down a black wighead, if you wanted to give the stream some geometry.

3. composite the two in After FX, using alpha channels and tracking.

I haven't actually done this myself, but it's similar to how they got the water splashing under the T-Rex's feet in Jurrasic Park.

In the near future, I'm going to build an alpha channel clip library of splashes, dust, smoke, etc.

Good luck!
