I am doing a war movie, one of the scenes in the movie calls for an armored car to get shelled by an antitank gun. the driver of the car gets out, and the side of his head is bloen of with his brains and his eye hanging out. How could I do this?

Not to be an @$$ hole or anything, but if half of his brain is gone and his eye is hanging out I'm not sure he'll have the dexterity to open the door, never mind get out of the car and start running. Wouldn't he be very much dead?

I don't know kaven if you remeber bio class youl know that most of your body controls and instict controls are at the base of your brain. yes he may be dead but he could possibly get out. and hell it's a movie! no offense or anything.

Eddieboy i believe that i told you how to do the eye thing right? on your other post.

Well, if you can't do it right, improvise!

it will probably look stupid, but just an idea: use a dummy.

That is true Gnewbee, but the guy's thought process is destroyed. Plus Eddieboy didn't specify what part of the brain would be hanging out. I know bodies twitch after they die, but I still think getting out of a car after missing half your head is a bit of an extreme. Why not show him in the car missing half his head? This way you could use a dummy and it wouldn't look bad.

Sorry about that kaven if i came out strong. what i meant(but i didn't write it for some reason) was if he has just the skull part missing he would have a while before he died. But i think the dummy idea is better anyway.

Here's an idea: use a latex mask, make the mask bigger than his head, then make half of the mask blown off. For brains, use good ol fashioned gelatin! I don't even think I have to tell you how to make fake blood, but just in case: Petroleum Jelly colored red!

I will most likely catch hell for this post, but here it goes:

Not to diss your project or vission, or anyone elses method of filmaking, but unless you're doing a test film or a demo reel, gratuitous gore looks ridiculous unless the rest of the production has the same values to support such a shot.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of gore shots, but unless they're supported by a good script, directing, lighting, editing, etc., it looks like shlock.

If this is a no-budget project, I would concentrate on getting that armored car to look great in the shot (assuming you can't afford a real one, and are going with a model, cg, or a mock-up. Having it shelled is another challenge all together! Pull that off, and you have a great supporting shot for your gore scene.

First of all, WHO SAID IT HAD NO STORY?
and 2nd, I posted 2 very good methods to do this trick on your last post(which asked the same question). Scroll down and look at them.

I can tell you first hand that gore does not look stupid if you do it right. You just have to do it in a real way. Eddie did not ask how to shell the car, but how to do the fx in a real way. I'm sure Eddie has a good story, enough to make it.
Well, just my two cents.

Hey, I understand. The first thing one will assume when they come here is not one person has any funds, or that they cannot make it on what they have. But after staying a while, you can see that most people can get by all too well. Nothing to worry about, really.

not trying to offend anyone but if i were to do a movie i could probally do a decent one for under $100. My main goal in doing stuff is to find odd ways of doing stuff and still have it look good. You'ld be amazed at what i could do with some red cool aid, soap, coffee, vasilne, toilet paper, garden hose, some crappy make-up, and a little imagination. Money has nothing to do with it it is all imaginaton, time, and talent

With out these money can't do anything.
