1 - I would like to know how hard it is to create effects like lightsabers, arms getting chopped off, etc. with After FX for the artistically challenged, and someone who has no knowledge of such programs.

2 - Is Premier good for editing sounds?

3 - Can one create gun flashes with After FX, or is this a job for Photoshop?

4 - do these programs all come with manuals to tell you the basics?

5 - are these programs too hard for beginners?

I know for sure that Premiere is quite friendly and easy to use + learn. I don't know about After FX, but I imagine its the same deal.

I don't know much about editing sounds (except for how to splice two clips together and such), but I know for that use that Premeire is fine.

do you know if they come with manuals? or could you give me step-by-step instructions how to do anything with Premier? cuz i have the demos for After FX, Photoshop, and Premier 5.1. I can do the photoshop, but I haven't been able to figure out ANYTHING with Premier or After FX. the Premier demo comes with small video clips you can mess around with. I just need a nudge in the right direction. Just something to get me started.

Hi, The latest version of Premier has been greatly enhanced for sound mixing and enhancement.

Yes they come with manuals that give you basic tutorials. You're better off buying a good book on a particular programme that you are interested in.

Too hard???

We all have to start some where, Time is the biggest asset you need in learning a new programme. You will make mistakes but you will also learn by doing.

You can also check your local library or book store for the very helpful Adobe 'Classroom in a Book' series. There is one for Premiere 5.x but I don’t think they have one for After Effects. I recommend checking the Adobe user forum @ adobe.com. You can search for any questions relative to your inquires. Best of luck.
