I've spent the last 8 months working on a six minute and change, sync sound, 16mm experimentally comedic horror drama which I am pretty pleased with. I wrote and produced four original songs and spent countless hours as well as my blood, sweat, and tears on this. A Steenbeck editing bed, in a state of disrepair had its way with me. There exists 3-10 vertical scratches of about 1/80 of the screen in each and every frame. The scratches are on the base of my reversal film so there is no possibility of repair. Should I spend the $300-$600 for a transfer and color correction as well as the $20-$50 fees for entry in various festivals? I have already figured the larger festivals wouldn't accept me, but has anyone entered into some of the smaller festivals with scratched film? Has anyone been to a festival in which some of the entries were scratched? I'm more concerned with getting in than winning, is there a 'no scratch' policy at most festivals? Your experience and advice is greatly appreciated. |

maybe you can get away with it if you tell em it 'art'... tell them that the scratches are a metaphore for the damage that was done to you in your childhood etc etc maybe you'll win!good luck
