Lighting is a very important factor in chroma keying.Try to light the subject seperately from the backround (blue/green screen), and light both the backround and the subject well. Eliminate all the shadows possible.
When your filming someone with, say, a lot of curly hair, (which I, by the way, used to have four inches of), the keying engine you are using will probably leave a blue or green halo around the head of the subject. This is inevitable and, as far as I know, it can only be solved by buying the ludicrisly expensive Adobe After Effects (900$-1500$), which has spill controls and such.
If you have Premeire, which is also expensive, but not quite as much (500$ full, 200$ upgrade, but you can probably find it cheaper), you should use the "Blue Screen" method of keying in the "Transparency" section. This is good for less-than-perfect conditions... is more flexible.
