What would be some good ways to evenly light a blue or green screen so that it's all one flat color?

Fluorescent lights will do the job. Put your actors a good 5 feet in front of the screen, though...you don't want the colors to bleed. Remember to use a different light for your subject. Possibly a halogen light with barn doors or something.

Sorry Prism, you don't want to do that. You would be mixing light with two different colors. Flourescent has a green cast to it. You should use the same type of lighting as you do for the items in front of the screen. You can use difusion on them to help get it even over the screen. The main thing you need to do is get it lit evenly. The unevenly lit areas will look a different color, and may not screen out. That will depend on the software that you are using. Some will let you take a range of colors to use as the key, others are too specific, and need a very pure key color, and some will only let you use a few hues, meaning no greens, only a small range of blue, and that has to be very evenly lit.

Thanks, Critter...
I only know what I have tried myself. It does work, but probably not nearly as good as the method you suggested.

he, wouldn't it look best, if yu were doing an outside shot, to record green screen outside? then you wouldn't have to worry about lighting!

maybe yu already knew that?

Um...outdoor bluescreening is probably not a good idea. You can't really control the shadows that way. You need control. I just don't think it would work..or if it did, the results would be weird. But then, what do I know!

Mole Richardson makes some fine cyc lights for just this purpose. If you have the means, check them out.
