I was wondering if anyone knew how they move animal mouths like in Babe and the Taco Bell commercials. I want to try this same effect on my dog for a film I'm doing. I was thinking of just using poser4 and adding a little 3d jaw to my dogs mouth. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Don't know bout' taco bells pooch, but I do know that in the movie "Babe" they had animal trainers "teach" the pigs etc. to "Yawn" on cue some cg was used I'm sure, but this was what was in an article I read in a sp-fx mag. when Babe came out.

Sorry I can't be of any more help,
Mark

I know alot of it is done with elastic reality. Your CGI jaw sounds like a good idea as well. I want to see your results when you're finished

Crazy Lou is right. If you don't use computers to do it, use peanut butter. Thats how they made Mr. Ed "talk".

HBTL is right,
Use elastic reality-it would work great for this thing. You can get the sync down to the frame.

If you wanna try something a little more low budget, try using kais power goo.

Heh..I am sorry, but I just can't stand it when an animal on TV talks with their mouth moving! It does not express what we really need to see to believe that what we are hearing is what the animal is thinking. Know what I mean? Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey is, in my opinion, superior to the more recent films because they didn't give every darn animal mouth movements. Animals just look weird when you try to make their mouths move. It's unnatural, creepy, unrealistic, and just downright weird!

Sorry..just an opinion..don't take it too hard.

MR Ed was done by havin a piece of fishing line going to his nostrils and touching and making him react.

I saw a live-action western with an all-monkey cast... it was produced somewhere between 1940-1965...
therefore there was no CGI... not only were the mouths in sync in terms of timing... but teh mouth movements were correct....

Shows what you can do if you use your creativity

Ebrigman you have gotta find out what that movie is!!!!!

How unbelievably cool is that!
My vote is with prism though Dogs etc have such a vibrant personality on their own that you get just as caught up in the story without the whole Lip stuff.

If the film is good I guess it doesn't matter if the lips move. Your mind fills in all the details.
