I think I know what these things are for, but what's with the ridiculous prices? Does anyone know of a place where I can get these sorts of clips for free, or possibly for just a MUCH lower price? Please help me out. Peace, tMoA |

Stock footage is always pricey it seems. I have no clue where to get it free, and I have searched the net exaustively(sp?) for it.I know that the public library in the city I used to live in used to have stock footage for free but they only carried footage of events, stop motion etc....no special effects. But if anyone does know where to get free footage from please let me know, I think paying $399 bux for a few explosions is kinda crazy to us low budget film-makers. |

Availabilty is the cost there people. Like a recent post looking for video of an elclipse. You can't just point a camera at the sun and hope for the best as I think you need special filters etc. (Not sure about this!) Also eclipse don't happen to often (No kidding) so people that do have footage kno that it is a rare commodity. Similarly with stock footage. How many people can film explosions in a controlled environment? No one here that I know of, hence the reason for the price. Cheap to those who can afford it and all that. Sadly the have's aren't about to give to the have nots when thay can squeeze them for cash. I think though that is the idea of this board, people like yourself who have come up against these problems and can offer up solutions that are cheap and non hazardous. Ummm..I've kinda lost the point haven't I?Sorry Chimp |

I too, feel your pain. I need a couple of good explosions for a music video I'm making. I downloaded a clip from Pyromania's site (very small Quicktime, I'm afraid) and thought I could enlarge it and smooth it out in Photoshop, and also get rid of that pesky little logo. Maybe that's cheating and maybe it's not. Lord knows I am making zero money of my videos. It's just a hobby. I shouldn't worry about "royalty-free" right? Anyways, the background won't key out. I know they are supposed to work by alpha-keying, but the little quicktime demos won't seem to do that. Any more ideas? |

I gave up on stock photos/textures a long time ago. When I need a texture, I use one of my own photos, or I draw one. It's not that hard.Isaiah ------------------ Hilarem datorem diligit Deus |

Yeah, I agree with creating your own stock PHOTOS or TEXTURES, but stock footage is another story. Most of us don't have access to explosions, fly-overs, and other stuff like that. I would love to blow up a car for my next music video, but it's just to costly and dangerous. |

well drawing your own textures and still is fine, but what this talk is about is using other ppls footage for things you canīt film yourself like explosions, shots outta airplanes......i canīt tell you a free place, but there are others then artbeats like eyewire (www.eyewire.com). Pyromania is cheaper then artbeats as far as i know. and what about talking to some other indy-filmers in your area and sharing one copy ? buy it together. |

Yeah, if you need an explosion, then I can't argue against using stock footage. Still, I would try my best to make one on the computer using a variety of effects with whatever software I have. I only use stock footage as a last resort.Isaiah ------------------ Hilarem datorem diligit Deus |
