Hi,

I read this board every day, and every day the same questions are asked.
I bought a book a while ago, and it covers a lot of the questions (Even the ones that are closed here like explosions and wire stunts).
It's a expensive book, and there is also a sourcebook or something like that (Which I haven't read And if anyone has please tell me if it's worth buying if you already have the other). Ok I've been ranting on, and you are all eager to know which book I'm refering to....

'Secrets of hollywood special effects' By Robert E. McCarthy

Big URLs comming up: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0240801083/o/qid=959868052/sr=8-1/ref=aps_sr_b_1_1/103-1598055-1659817

Now, if there are more books comming up on the subject, Please let me know....

Cja,

And before you do anything, always make sure it's safe to do....

an even better one is Bernard (Bernie - depends on the edition) Wilkie's "Special Effects for Motion Pictures and Television". The older editions give away more secrets of in-camera effects, the new ones are CGI heavy.

For optical stuff including matte paintings and mirror shots try Raymond Fielding's Techniques of Special Effects Cinematography... amazing book

I don't know why everyone goes to Amazon.com, they suck. Barnesandnoble.com has the first book mentioned for $15 less.

The special effect sourcebook is a book full of adresses of special effects people and supplies arranged alphabetically by country and state, basicly it's a pre-production planner or an out-in-the-field problem solver.

The Secrets of Hollywood Special Effects video's are also interesting, they cover the same issues as in the book with more detail.

All times are ET (US)
