In the old star wars films they blew apart models etc. Any know what explosives they used? I don't want just a pow, I want some flames involved. I want these to look real, not crappy.

well then you're going to have to hire a trained pyro tech. we dont discuss pyro on the boards and chances are it'll get your threads locked. check the posting guidelines for whats allowed and what isnt

just get some stock footage and use something like premiere to throw it all together

This thread won't be deleted if it stays on nonpyrotechnic methods from this point on.

Computer methods are the only way we advocate something like an explosion with a fireball.

Stock footage can be superimposed, or computer animated explosion of a digital model.

If you were to film an actual explosion, you'd have to shoot it at high speed to slow it down, or duplicate frames in an editing program anyway. Miniature explosions look like exactly what they are without doctoring.

You can buy cd's with explosions on them and you can use a luminance map to put them in the scene I paid $100 for mine. Well worth it.
